OK, here is the deal! I took the GRE a couple of years ago and I got a V: 410 / Q: 400 (810 combined) with AW: 4.5. I know it is a sorry score. However, my cumulative undergraduate GPA is a 3.4 and my Graduate (M.Ed. Adult and Higher Ed at the University of Oklahoma) GPA is a 4.0. I am halfway through my program. I am working on a research project right now, and will be hopefully moving that toward publication early next year. I am applying to three PhD programs this September. I would have retaken the GRE, however, after doing some studying and taking practice exams… my score actually went down! Scary!!! So I figured it might look more appealing if I did not retake it. What advice does everyone have regarding my score? Do you think they will overlook it? Thank you!! :)

Well, I’m planning on taking the GRE when I start my Senior year (I’m a junior coming this fall so I have like a year! LoL!) I’ve been reading similar questions about the GRE on here and some say it’s just harder that SAT/ACT tests, others say it’s the hardest thing they’ve ever took. I was wondering how hard is the GRE compared to those other tests on a range? Oblivious, the GRE is going to be harder than the ‘College entrance exams’ like the ACT we took a few years ago, but exactly how much harder?

I’m a History/Classics major at the University of Delaware - with minors in Theatre Studies and Religious Studies and three classes away from an Art History minor (but I haven’t officially claimed it yet). Ancient History is my bread and butter, and I want to work in a museum…I will be working as a University Museum Curatorial Apprentice next year and have experience cataloging archaeological items in the Archaeology Lab and I am volunteering this summer with the Historical Costume and Textile Collection at my University. I am not looking for search engines for schools, I am looking for direct recommendations for schools of the above or related. I have found a few, but I want to know some for all over the world, but specifically in California in the San Francisco area, Arizona, New York in Manhattan and Rochester and anywhere in Italy, specifically Rome. I want to get as many recommendations as possible. Also, given my experience, would a 3.0 and a good grade on the GRE (which I haven’t taken yet; I don’t know much about them, what would be considered a minimum score and on what scale would it be on?) Please let me know! I look forward to the answers. ^^

What are my chances of getting into George Washington University, or any graduate school for that matter. I want to major in biochemistry with a concentration in metabolism. Right now my lack of physical chemistry is preventing me from applying to most programs, and the schools offering it in my state are either much too far for 3 day a week travel or much too expensive (that one course is more than a whole semester at my school!) I spent most of my undergraduate career paying out of pocket (close to $40,000 room and board) before i received a full scholarship, so i am not looking forward to paying more than $3000+ for one class when tuition alone at my school for 18 credits wasn’t even that much. GW doesnt require pchem for the phd program. I have decided that getting a masters first is not a bad idea. I have a 3.5 GPA, graduated c u m laude. I have a year of biochemistry experience, and 6 months of unrelated research experience. Will get great recommendations from my research mentor/biochem/immunology teacher, physics, and seminar professors. I have yet to take the GRE, but my preliminary scores show 600 math and 510 verbal, which I know is on the low side but i am studying hard to get the math score up. I am taking a year off before grad school. What can I do to improve my chances? BTW, I am also applying to howard. I was also thinking of the georgetown masters program that does not require the GRE, but think my GPA may be too low for that program. What would be a good safety school for me?

I am pretty much starting from square one. I have been out of college for 5 years and have been working, not studying up on vocabulary and basic math. I am working full time and taking an evening class (Anatomy and Physiology). It seems like the GRE is not offered in August or September, however there are some dates available in July. One school I would like to apply for has an early application that is due October 15. I was really hoping to apply, until I found out today that the GRE is only offered in July in the summer. How grueling is the GRE? I consider myself much better at math- took Calc 1 and 2 in college (however it was several years ago). Words/language are definitely my weaker skill. However I am learning a bit of Latin in my anatomy class, and I did take it in high school, so there is some residual knowledge. Also, how difficult, or what types of questions are asked on the Analytical Writing portion? Thanks!!! I was hoping to take the test July 31st if I were to apply for early acceptance.
