I’m about to graduate from Slippery Rock Univ. in 2011 with a BA in Communications and minor in Film/Media Studies. I have a 3.3 QPA so far overall and I’m taking my GRE this Oct. I want to apply to the Graduate program in Cinema Studies at San Francisco State University for Fall 2011. I know that SFSU has a good cinema graduate program and I was just wondering is it hard/competitive to get into the graduate cinema studies program at SFSU. Do you have any advice for me for my application when I apply?? Any advice about graduate school or SFSU will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

I have been studying for the GRE for about a month and a half, but feel I need more organization and a proper approach.
I’ve taken a few diagnostic test and have consistently scored better on the verbal than on the math.
I have also attempted to utilize the PowerPrep software, but have been unable to open it because I use a 64 bit version of Windows 7 (apparently PowerPrep can only run on a 32 bit operating system).
I plan on taking the test in late August, and again in November if I’m not happy with my initial scores.
My scores on practice test currently range from 900 to 1400, so it would be great if someone could tell me which practice/diagnostic test are the most accurate.

I’ll be applying to doctoral programs this fall. I’m doing my undergraduate degree at an okay institution (tier 3, but I went there because there was faculty I wanted to do research with.) I have a 3.88 GPA, double major in computer science and psychology, honors everything, graduating a year early, and have worked on 10 separate research projects, 4 of which I designed myself. I also have a first-author journal paper, 2 co-author journal papers, 2 first-author conference papers, 3 co-authored conference papers, and 6 first-author poster papers. I’ve also served on organizing committees for academic conferences, been asked to peer-review papers, have presented talks at academic conferences, written small grants which were accepted, and have won multiple student research competition awards. However, despite all of this, my ability to do middle school math is embarrassing. I haven’t taken the GREs yet, but on my practices, I’ve scored around a 450. I’m confident about my ability to do well on the verbal and writing portions, but am worried about my quantitative score. I believe my research background indicates that I’m clearly capable of doing independent research, but I’m worried that the admissions committee won’t even open up my CV because they’ll only see a moderately low GRE score from a non-prestigious university.

I’ve been out of psychology for several years now, actually working in public health. I do have a BS in psychology & an MA in training & development, and I’m an Associate Member of the APA. I had a 3.6 GPA in my undergrad & a 4.0 GPA in my MA program. But like I said I haven’t been working in the psychology field for about 10 years now, and I don’t have any publications to my credit though I did work on a psychology department research study about 10 years ago, but that was a health psychology study.
